Peugeot 408 Transmission Oil Pressure

Having some transmission issues with my 2011 Peugeot 408, gasoline engine. It's got about 91k km on it. The engine warning light keeps coming on, and I pulled the error code – it's a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. I've noticed the gearbox sometimes goes into emergency mode, and the shifts aren't as smooth as they used to be; sometimes it even feels like it's slipping. I even hear some grinding noises when shifting. I've checked for any obvious leaks, but haven't found anything. Could this be related to low gearbox oil? Any ideas before I take it to a shop?

Oh, that sounds rough! I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra a while back. The transmission was acting up, and it turned out to be a sensor issue too. Was it hard to find the error code? It took me ages to figure it out myself.

Yeah, it's definitely annoying! Finding the error code wasn't too bad, I have an OBD2 scanner. But I'm more concerned about what's causing the sensor to fault. In your case, what exactly was the issue with your Astra, and did it have anything to do with low oil?

Right, I get it. Well, in my case, the garage checked it and suggested the same thing as you are thinking - low oil. The mechanic recommended I get it checked out professionally, as it could cause more damage. I did, and it was fine after that.

Thanks for the insight! Sounds like getting the oil level checked is the next step. I appreciate the advice. Turns out it was low on oil! Got it topped up and the sensor replaced, cost me 365€. Shifts are smooth again. Cheers!
