Peugeot 5008 Diesel Smoke and Power Loss

Hi, I have a 2010 Peugeot 5008 diesel. At 79175 km, a warning light is on, and it's smoking a lot when I accelerate. It seems DPF regeneration isn't working. Diagnostics suggest a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else had this?

I also own a 5008 diesel, and this sounds familiar. Are you experiencing a loss of power with the smoke and DPF issue? Does the engine seem hotter, and have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption? Did your mechanic confirm the exhaust back pressure sensor is faulty, or just that the readings are off?

Yes, there's a reduction in power, and I've seen a slight increase in fuel consumption. I thought it was the cold weather. I'm not sure if the engine is running hotter, but I'll check. The report said 'Exhaust back pressure sensor defective'. What was your experience?

A diagnostic report explicitly mentioning the sensor is telling. My initial report was ambiguous. With your symptoms and the diagnosis, it's likely your exhaust back pressure sensor. Replacing mine fixed it. Driving with a faulty sensor could cause other problems, so I wouldn't go on long journeys until it's fixed.

Thanks for the help! Your insights have been really useful. I'll book an appointment with a workshop to replace the sensor. The estimated repair cost is about 245€. Hopefully, this fixes it.
