Peugeot 508 active hood fault and airbag warning

I'm really in a pickle! I have a 2023 Peugeot 508, gasoline engine, and only 220571 km on the clock. Recently, I've been getting this awful message on the on-board computer: "Active hood fault". To make matters worse, the airbag warning lamp in the speedometer is now constantly lit! I ran a diagnostic and, sure enough, there's an error stored in the error memory. It seems like the spring actuators are being triggered somehow. Could this be a major car safety issue?

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my Volvo a while back. Got the same 'active hood' warning and airbag light. Was there any sign of collision? Have you had your bumper checked lately?

No collision that I'm aware of, and the bumper seems fine at first glance. What exactly was the issue with your Volvo? And how did you resolve it? Was it a simple fix, or did it require professional attention?

Turned out to be a faulty acceleration sensor in my case. The system thought I'd been in a collision and was pre-tensioning everything. Best bet is to get it checked out professionally. It's a safety system thing, you don't wanna mess with it.

Thanks for the heads up! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – defective acceleration sensor! Replaced it, error's gone, and the light is off. Cost me 315€, but at least it's sorted now. Appreciate the help!
