The sensor itself appears dry. I have not checked the fuel filter. Is there any chance the water sensor is the root cause and not the fuel filter?

Well, anything's possible, but a dry sensor throwing codes AND rough running? That's screaming electrical fault. Probably corroded connector or damaged wire. You're likely right. Get the multimeter out, or bite the bullet and head to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly.

Thank you for your input. The workshop confirmed the cable to the sensor was faulty. Repair cost 95€.

Water sensor, eh? Rough running too? Sounds like a proper gremlin! Is the sensor actually wet, or just throwing a code? Might be chasing shadows if it's dry. You sure it's not fuel filter?
