Peugeot 607 Active Hood Fault

My 2004 Peugeot 607 diesel displays an "Active hood fault" message, and the airbag warning lamp is on. Diagnostics showed the spring actuators have been triggered. The car has 91120 km on it. Could this be a defective acceleration sensor, and what should I do?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had the EXACT same thing happen with my 607. Drove me nuts! That "Active Hood" thing is part of the pedestrian safety system – if the car thinks you've hit someone, it pops the hood up a little to cushion the impact. The airbag light comes on because the systems are interconnected. Is it going off randomly or after hitting a bump?

The system fault and airbag lights were initially occasional, but are constant now. I have neither been in an accident, nor driven on bumpy roads recently. Has anyone else encountered this problem with the acceleration sensor?

Okay, intermittent to constant definitely points to a failing sensor or the wiring. The acceleration sensor is what triggers the active hood system. I ended up having to take mine to a workshop because messing with airbags and safety systems can be dangerous. They replaced the sensor, cleared the codes and it was all good. Was not cheap though!

I appreciate the advice. It confirms my suspicion of an acceleration sensor fault. After confirming the issue and part availability with the local workshop, I booked it for repair. The defective sensor was replaced, and the error codes were cleared for 315€.
