Peugeot 607 Electrical Issues

My 2000 Peugeot 607 with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. Only 32705 km! Reduced engine power, speedometer warning light, struggles to start, lights flickering, and the computer's throwing errors. Pretty sure it's the generator failing. Anyone seen this?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar mess with my old Saab 9-5. Same symptoms – weak lights, starting issues, and the car felt choked. Did you check the serpentine belt tension? A slipping belt can cause the alternator to underperform and throw all sorts of electrical gremlins.

Serpentine belt, eh? It LOOKS okay, but I haven't put a wrench to it. You think that alone could cause all these issues or should I just plan for a new generator?

In my case, a worn belt was definitely part of the problem on the Saab. But with all those electrical symptoms and error codes, plus the age of your 607, I'd say the alternator itself is likely failing too. I’d recommend getting it properly diagnosed. A new generator might be needed anyway.

Cheers for the advice! You nailed it. Took it to a workshop, and you were spot on - the generator was indeed defective. 960€ later, I'm back on the road. Much appreciated!
