Peugeot 806 charge air temperature sensor error

My 2001 Peugeot 806, diesel engine, is showing a charge air temperature sensor error. Mileage is at 167005 km. The check engine light is on, and power is reduced. I'm also hearing a whistling noise, quite a loud hissing actually, when accelerating. Error memory confirms the sensor issue. Initial inspection suggests a possible defective cable or plug connection. Anyone experienced similar?

That does sound frustrating. I had a comparable issue with my old Renault Scenic. Different sensor, I think it was the airflow sensor but similar symptoms: check engine light, strange noises, and sluggish performance. Did you notice any temperature fluctuation readings that seemed off?

Thanks for the quick response! Temperature fluctuation... not specifically, but the air intake does seem a bit hotter than usual. Was the defective cable or plug connection of the component also the likely cause in your case? How much did that set you back?

In my case, it was! It turned out that a rodent had been nibbling away at the wires. Unfortunately, I'm not really mechanically inclined, so I had to take it to a workshop, and they sorted it out. Maybe you can fix it yourself and save some money that way, however if you're not familiar with electrics, I would advise you to visit a repair shop before you make anything worse.

Appreciate the advice. Just back from the workshop. The cable and plug connection to the charge air temperature sensor were indeed defective. Repair cost me 95€. Problem solved; engine's running smoothly again.
