Peugeot 806 Diesel Particulate Filter Issue

Hi, I'm experiencing issues with my 2000 Peugeot 806 diesel. Recently, I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, and there's quite a bit of smoke when I accelerate. The car has only done 57309 km. I suspect it might be related to the diesel particulate filter, but I'm not entirely sure. I've checked for any obvious leaks in the exhaust system, but everything seems fine. Could a faulty DPF cause these symptoms, or should I be looking at something else, like a sensor fault affecting fuel efficiency?

Hey there, those symptoms definitely point towards a DPF issue. Reduced power and smoke are classic signs. Have you tried forcing a regeneration cycle? Sometimes, if the filter is just clogged, a good blast on the motorway can clear it out. Though with that mileage, it might be more serious. Have you noticed any increase in backpressure? That could also be a DPF indicator.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't tried forcing a regeneration cycle yet, I wasn't even sure if that was possible on this model. How exactly would I go about doing that? Also, how would I check for increased backpressure? I don't have any specialized tools, but is there a simple way to get an idea if that's the problem?

Forcing a regeneration can sometimes be done through the car's computer, but honestly, for your model, it's probably best left to a workshop with the right diagnostic tools. As for backpressure, without gauges, it's tough to tell definitively. If it's really bad, you might feel the engine struggling or hear a whistling sound. Given the symptoms and mileage, a defective DPF is quite probable, and you should get it checked professionally to avoid further damage. It ended up costing me 1550€ for the repair.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll take it to a garage and have them run a diagnostic check on the DPF. Hopefully, it's something simple, but I'm prepared for the worst. I appreciate you confirming my suspicions and saving me some time troubleshooting other potential causes. Turns out that the Diesel Particulate Filter was indeed defective.
