Fuel economy seems normal, perhaps slightly worse than usual. Where are the airflow sensors located on the Boxer, and is there a reset procedure I can attempt before assuming the worst about the injectors?

The airflow sensor is typically located in the intake ducting, near the air filter box. You could try cleaning it with a specialized sensor cleaner, but honestly, my experience with the rough running and the fuel injection fault ultimately pointed to the injectors. While cleaning the sensor might provide temporary relief, I’d recommend taking it to a workshop to avoid consequential damage.

Appreciate the confirmation, that is what I feared. Spoke with my mechanic, and indeed, it's a defective injector. Repair cost will be around 515€ Thanks again for sharing your experience!

I had a similar issue with my Boxer – though I can't recall the exact error code. Rough running was definitely a symptom. Have you checked the airflow sensors? Sometimes a faulty reading there can throw off the fuel injection and cause similar problems. What's your fuel economy been like lately?
