When you had this, did the automatic restart fail, or did the engine restart? Did the starter motor engage during the failed start-stop events?

Yes, the automatic restart failed consistently. The engine shut down, but wouldn't restart automatically. No starter motor engagement. I'd advise having a technician check the battery and electrical system. It'll save you time.

Thanks for the help. I went to a workshop, and the battery was heavily discharged and defective, so I replaced it. Total cost was 290€. The start-stop system is now working.

I had a similar problem with my Boxer diesel. Start-stop malfunctioned with engine shutting off and warning lights. Have you checked the battery voltage under load? A weak battery can cause havoc with the start-stop.
