Thanks for the tip! Which fuse specifically should I be looking at? And any pointers on accessing the brake pedal switch wiring? It's a bit cramped down there.

I don't remember the exact fuse number, but the fuse box diagram should indicate which one is for the brake lights. Accessing the wiring can be tricky due to the limited space. If you're not comfortable, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop to avoid any further complications or damage to the system. I think that's the best choice.

It WAS a fuse. Replaced it, and everything's working perfectly again. Error message is gone, brake lights are back. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Cost me absolutely nothing to fix.

I own an Expert as well, and I recall a similar situation. The issue might stem from a faulty connection or a blown fuse related to the brake light circuit. Have you checked the fuse box and the wiring near the brake pedal switch?
