Peugeot Intake Manifold Flap Issue

I'm having a nightmare with my 2022 Peugeot 3008 diesel. It's got 274332 km on the clock and recently it's started playing up. I'm getting reduced engine power, the engine runs really rough, and it jerks like crazy when I try to accelerate. Plus, there's a loud hissing sound when I put my foot down, and my fuel consumption has gone through the roof! I've plugged in an OBD reader, and it's pointing towards an intake manifold flap control problem. I'm guessing it's probably a defective switch, but I'm no mechanic. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any ideas?

Blimey, that sounds all too familiar! I had almost identical symptoms in my old 2016 Vauxhall Insignia – reduced power, rough running, the whole shebang. Turned out to be a sticky swirl flap actuator. Is the engine light on? With mine, the ECU was throwing all sorts of air intake and misfire codes. How’s the airflow control generally? Does the engine feel like it's struggling to breathe?

Yeah, the engine light is on, constantly taunting me! The OBD reader is reporting errors related to the intake manifold flap control. You mentioned a 'sticky swirl flap actuator' - is that the same thing as the intake manifold flap control? I am not sure I know how to check airflow control. Any tips? I'm trying to avoid a costly trip to the garage if I can.

Right, sounds very similar indeed! While "intake manifold flap control" and "swirl flap actuator" aren't exactly the same thing, they're closely related and serve a similar function in controlling airflow into the engine. Given the symptoms and error codes, it's highly probable that the intake manifold flap control is the culprit. Honestly, checking the airflow control properly often requires specialist equipment. Unless you're very comfortable with engine diagnostics, I’d seriously consider taking it to a qualified workshop. My Insignia ended up needing a new intake manifold which wasn't cheap.

Thanks for the advice! I suspected as much, but I was hoping for a miracle cure I could perform myself! Looks like a trip to the workshop is unavoidable. Just got the news from my local garage: intake manifold flap control is indeed defective. The repair is going to set me back 465€. Thanks again for your help and confirming my suspicions!
