Intermittent is exactly right. Is RF frequency a concern even with the 'low battery' warning?

Given it's intermittent and the stored error, a depleted battery is the most likely cause and cheapest to fix. If a new battery doesn't solve it, investigate further. A diagnostic check at a workshop would be wise if the new battery doesn't help.

Confirmed: 37€ for a new battery fixed it. Thanks for the pointers.

I had similar issues with my iOn. Check if the comfort access module is broadcasting on the correct RF frequency. The depleted battery could be the cause. Does the central locking work intermittently?
