I checked the transmission fluid and it appears to be at the correct level and doesn't seem burnt or contaminated. Regarding the engine surge, yes, I have noticed some irregular engine behavior, especially when the transmission seems to be slipping. Is that what you experienced with your Volvo?

The surging, combined with the other symptoms, strongly suggests a torque converter issue. Given your observations and the error codes, it's best to consult a workshop with expertise in automatic transmissions. It could save you a lot of time and potential further damage.

I took your advice and brought it to a local mechanic. The diagnosis confirmed the defective torque converter, as suspected. The repair cost is estimated at 2120€. Again, thank you for your help!

I encountered a comparable problem with my 2012 Volvo V60 (diesel). Check engine light was on, and the gearbox was acting erratically. It sounds like you are on the right track, have you checked the transmission fluid level or condition? Also, does the engine surge unexpectedly at certain speeds?
