Peugeot Traveller oil pressure issue

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not sure about the oil viscosity. I had an oil change a few months ago, but I didn't pay attention to the specific type used. I haven't noticed any changes in performance or fuel consumption, but those engine noises are definitely getting louder. Is there any way to check the oil pressure directly, maybe with a gauge?

Yeah, you can get an oil pressure gauge fitted, but given the loud noises and the warning light, it's probably best not to drive it too much. Low oil pressure means the engine bearings might not be getting enough lubrication. Continuing to drive it could cause serious damage. A defect in the oil pump is a likely cause. I would suggest taking it to a workshop to get it checked out before it gets worse.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was a defect in the oil pump. They replaced it, and the oil and filter too, and the total repair cost came to 755€. Now the engine sounds normal again, and the oil pressure light is off. Lesson learned: don't ignore low oil pressure!

Sounds concerning. Low oil pressure can cause significant damage. Are you using the correct oil viscosity? Sometimes using a thinner oil than recommended can cause low pressure, especially in older engines. Also, have you noticed any changes in the engine's performance, like reduced power or increased fuel consumption?
