Phaeton SRS Light Issue: Airbag System Warning Alert

Looking for help with my 2012 Phaeton diesel showing constant SRS light in the cluster. The airbag warning lamp stays illuminated since yesterday, though no airbag deployment occurred. No accident or impact damage either. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their Phaeton? Mainly interested in potential causes and repair solutions from those who got it fixed. Would also like to know if this could be related to any airbag recall campaigns. What diagnostic steps did your workshop take and what parts needed replacement? Car has 150000 kilometers if that matters.

Having moderate experience with similar restraint system issues, I can share what happened with my 2014 VW Touareg diesel. The airbag warning light suddenly came on without any apparent reason, quite similar to your situation. After thorough diagnostics at my regular workshop, they found that the issue was related to a faulty cable connection in the vehicle safety system. The wiring harness under the driver seat had some wear, causing intermittent connection issues with the airbag sensor. The repair involved replacing the damaged connection and running a complete system diagnostic to ensure all automotive safety components were functioning correctly. The total repair cost was 95€, which included the diagnostic scan and repair work. The fix has been solid for over a year now with no recurring issues. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you noticed any other warning lights? Does the SRS light stay on continuously or does it flicker? Have you had any recent work done near the seats or center console? Did you get any specific error codes read? This could help determine if your Phaeton is experiencing the same car safety issue or if its something different in the airbag repair circuit.

The issue was resolved by replacing a failing airbag sensor in the front passenger seat. The part cost 220€ plus labor. After installation, the SRS light went off and has not returned for 3 months now. My workshop found that moisture had corroded the seat sensor connector. They also checked all related restraint system components during repair to ensure no other issues were present. Last service was done at 52282km where they also verified the airbag repair work. A system scan confirmed all car safety modules are now working correctly. Would recommend checking the seat wiring and connectors first since these are common failure points for airbag warning lights in these models.

Glad to hear you got the issue resolved. This matches exactly what I experienced with my Touareg as well. While my initial problem was the wiring harness, I actually had a similar seat sensor failure about a year later. The crash sensor replacement in my case cost around 250€ including labor. The vehicle safety system in these VW models seems particularly sensitive to moisture-related issues, especially around the seat connectors. Its good your workshop did a complete restraint system check during the repair. This preventive approach often catches developing issues before they trigger warning lights. Based on both our experiences, Id suggest to others with similar airbag warning lamp issues to: 1. Get a proper diagnostic scan first 2. Have the seat wiring connectors checked for corrosion 3. Consider replacing the seat sensor if corrosion is found 4. Request a full system verification after any repairs The relatively quick fix and reasonable repair cost shows these airbag sensor issues, while concerning, are usually straightforward to resolve when properly diagnosed.

Thanks for the comprehensive details about both cases. After getting the passenger seat airbag sensor replaced and having the system fully checked, my Phaeton has been running perfectly with no SRS warning lights. Really appreciate the diagnostic approach suggestions, especially about checking the connectors for moisture damage. For others dealing with similar vehicle safety issues, the total cost of 220€ plus labor was worth it for the peace of mind. The workshop found the corroded connector during their automotive safety inspection, which likely prevented more expensive repairs later. Most importantly, having all car safety systems working correctly now means the airbag system will function as designed if needed. Regular maintenance has proven key in preventing these types of problems. Will definitely stay on top of checking the connections during future services to avoid any repeat airbag repair needs. Again, checking seat wiring and connectors first saved time in diagnosing the real issue. This seems to be a common failure point worth investigating when SRS lights appear in these models.
