Pino power steering vibration

Hi, I've got a 2008 Nissan Pino with a gasoline engine and recently, the power steering has become quite problematic. The steering wheel vibrates noticeably, and the handling feels spongy. I also found an error code related to the power steering. Sometimes it feels like the power steering has failed altogether, requiring a lot more effort to turn the wheel. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

The 2008 Nissan Pino is experiencing power steering issues, including noticeable vibration and spongy handling, with an error code indicating a potential problem. A similar case was resolved by checking and fixing loose connections to the steering pump or rack, suggesting that defective cables or plugs might be the cause. It is recommended to inspect these connections first or consult a mechanic for further diagnosis and repair.

Interesting. I have a Pino as well, and your description sounds familiar. Initially, I had the same shaking feeling, like driving with square tires on a go-kart. For me, it was the cable or a plug that was loose. Have you checked the connections to the steering pump or the steering rack? It might be a simple fix.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the connections myself, as I'm not really experienced with car repairs. But could the defective cables really be the cause, even with the error code? I initially suspected the whole steering system to be broken, like the steering column or the electric steering unit.

Yes, definitely check the easy stuff first! In my case, it was just a loose plug. Think of it like your internet connection – sometimes it's not the whole router that's broken, but just a loose cable that needs to be reconnected. However, considering you are seeing an error code and unsure how to proceed, I suggest swinging by a workshop, so they can have a look at it. It will cost you about 95€ including the part – at least that's what I had to pay.

Great! Thanks a lot for the help and the reference price! I'll definitely check the cable and plug connections first or bring it to a local mechanic and ask them to check for any defective parts. I'll share the resolution once the issue is resolved.
