Pixo low brake fluid worn brakes
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Nissan Pixo owner noticed low brake fluid levels and a strange brake pedal feel, suspecting worn brakes as a potential cause. Despite finding no leaks around the master cylinder and calipers, it was suggested that worn brake pads could be causing the issue, as they require more fluid when the caliper pistons extend further. A brake inspection confirmed the worn pads, leading to their replacement and resolving the problem.

Thanks for the insight. If the brake pads are indeed worn, would a simple brake inspection reveal the issue, or are there other potential causes, like a problem with the master cylinder itself?

A brake inspection should definitely show if the pads are worn. But yeah, a faulty master cylinder could be the culprit, but worn brakes are more common. I'd still get it checked by a professional because messing with the brake system is just asking for trouble. I went to a workshop to get mine done.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local workshop, and it turned out that the brake pads were indeed worn as suspected. The repair, including new pads and rotors, came to about 480€. Thanks again for the help!

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Pixo. If the fluid is disappearing and you can't see any leaks, it's likely your brake pads are wearing down. As they wear, the pistons in the calipers have to extend further, which uses more brake fluid from the reservoir. Worth checking!
