Pleo Trans Slipping & Grinding: Converter Issues Alert

My Pleo with automatic transmission is acting up and I am worried about the converter fault. When driving, the gearbox slips and makes grinding noises during gear changes. Both the check engine and transmission lights are on, and there is an error code stored. Since my last mechanic visit was not great, I want to hear about your experiences with similar symptoms, especially regarding the lock-up clutch. Has anyone dealt with this before? Car details: 2007 model, gasoline engine, 65275 KM.

Had similar symptoms with my 2010 Exeo, faced a serious automatic gearbox issue. The converter failure started just like yours, slipping, grinding during shifts, warning lights illuminating. The torque converter clutch was severely damaged, causing metal particles to contaminate the transmission fluid. The symptoms got worse over two weeks, eventually leading to complete transmission failure. The repair required removing the entire transmission. Main issues found: Failed lock-up clutch inside the converter, Damaged converter seals, Metal debris throughout the system, Multiple solenoid malfunctions The job involved: Complete torque converter replacement, Transmission flush and filter change, New solenoids installation, ECU reprogramming This was a major repair requiring specialist tools and expertise. The car was in the shop for 8 days. Would strongly recommend getting it checked immediately, these symptoms typically indicate severe converter fault that will only worsen with continued driving. The transmission ended up working like new after repairs, but waiting too long risks total transmission failure.

Thanks for sharing your repair experience! Dealing with similar issues on my Subaru right now, transmission slipping and that annoying engine surge during gear changes. Your description matches my symptoms exactly. Getting worried about potential torque converter problems. Just scheduled a transmission repair appointment since I do not want to risk complete failure. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the full repair ended up costing? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other transmission issues pop up?

After getting the automatic transmission fixed at a specialized shop, I can finally share the full cost details. The repair bill came to 2120€, which covered fixing the defective torque converter lock-up clutch and related components. The good news is the transmission has been working flawlessly for the past 6 months. No more slipping, grinding, or warning lights. The converter fault was completely resolved after they replaced the failing parts. The repair included: New torque converter installation, Full transmission fluid flush, Filter replacement, Computer system reset The automatic transmission feels brand new now, smooth gear changes and no more surging. Getting it fixed early was definitely worth it to avoid complete converter failure, which would have been much more expensive. The shop confirmed the lock-up clutch was severely worn, so addressing it when I did prevented additional damage to other transmission components. Zero issues since the repair, and the car shifts better than it has in years.

Thanks for the advice. I finally got my car back from the transmission repair shop yesterday. The symptoms were spot on, my torque converter was failing just like you described. The mechanic found significant wear in the lock-up clutch and metal particles in the fluid. Total bill came to 2350€ for replacing the converter, flushing the automatic transmission, and installing a new filter. Shop had the car for 5 days. The transmission specialist showed me the damaged parts and explained how the converter fault was causing the grinding and slipping. Car drives fantastic now, no more warning lights or rough shifting. The auto transmission feels completely different, much smoother between gears. Really glad I got it fixed before total failure happened. Will update if any issues pop up, but so far the repair seems solid. Thanks again for helping me understand what I was dealing with and encouraging me to get it checked out quickly.
