Porsche 991 Park Sensor Failure: Electrical Mystery Solved?

Hey everyone, my 2016 Porsche 991 has developed an electrical issue. The park distance sensors stopped working completely, and I'm getting a general electrical fault warning in the speedometer cluster. The error seems to be related to the parking aid system. Has anyone encountered similar symptoms? I'd really like to know what the fix was and approximate repair costs if you've had this done at a workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Porsche Cayman (I'd say I have some experience with Porsches, as I've owned a couple). The parking sensors went completely dead on mine too, and I got the same warning light. Took it to my trusted workshop and it turned out to be a faulty parking aid sensor. The whole thing, including labor, set me back about 265€. The mechanic had to replace one of the sensors and recalibrate the system. Could you share which specific sensors are acting up on yours (front/rear/both)? Also, did you notice any physical damage or have you recently had the bumpers repainted? This info would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm having this issue on both front and rear sensors, and no recent bodywork or repainting has been done. My car's at 66957 KM and just had its service last month, but this problem started suddenly yesterday. It's really strange because everything was working perfectly fine before. What I'm worried about is if this could be something more serious than just a sensor replacement. Did your mechanic mention anything about potential control module issues?

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. You know, when it happened to my Cayman, it was also pretty sudden and affected both front and rear sensors too. My car had similar mileage (around 70K km) when it happened. Since you mentioned it worked fine right after the service and suddenly failed, I don't think it's the control module. When I had my issue, my mechanic did check the control module just to be thorough, but in my case (and most cases he'd seen), it was really just the sensor itself. The module issues usually show different symptoms, like intermittent functioning or weird behavior before completely failing. What you're describing sounds exactly like what I experienced, sudden complete failure of all sensors. In my case, one faulty sensor was actually causing the whole system to throw a fit. The reason I mentioned the 265€ repair earlier was because it was just one sensor, but even if you need more than one replaced, it shouldn't be anything crazy expensive. Quick tip though, get it checked soon. I made the mistake of driving for a few weeks without getting it fixed, and parallel parking in the city was a real pain! Let me know what you find out when you get it checked. I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine.

Thanks so much for all the detailed information! You've really put my mind at ease about this not being a major control module issue. I've actually just booked my car in for next Tuesday at my local Porsche specialist. I totally get what you mean about parallel parking, I've already had a couple of nerve-wracking moments trying to park without the sensors! I appreciate you sharing the cost estimate too. Even if I need multiple sensors replaced, it sounds like it won't break the bank. I'll definitely update this thread once I get the diagnosis and repair done, just in case anyone else runs into the same problem in the future. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's really helpful to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this!
