Porter ECU error main relay
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Hyundai Porter diesel experienced a significant power drop, with an error code indicating an issue with the engine control unit (ECU). The problem was suspected to be electrical, potentially involving the main relay. Upon professional inspection, it was confirmed that a faulty main relay was causing the ECU issues. Replacing the main relay resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Interesting thought! Where is the main relay located? And how would I check if it's actually defective?

It's usually located in the engine compartment near the fuse box, or sometimes under the dash. Honestly, without proper testing gear, it's hard to say for sure. It could be the relay, or it could be something else entirely affecting the ECU. If you aren't confident poking around with electrics, it might be best to take it to a workshop. I did and they sorted it out properly without causing any more issues.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a shop and you were spot on. Turns out the main relay was buggered, messing with the ECU. They replaced it, cleared the error, and now it runs like new. Cost me 120€ all in.

I had something similar happen on my Porter. Reduced power is a real pain. I'm no expert, but did you check the main relay? I remember reading somewhere that a faulty main relay can mess with the ECU and cause all sorts of weird issues, like a dodgy light switch affecting your whole house.
