Hey folks, I've got a 2013 Nissan Murano, gas engine, clocked about 122,796 KM so far. Lately, I've noticed black smoke puffing out of the exhaust when I take off, kinda shaky engine, a flashing 'check engine' light, significant drop in power, and jerky movements on acceleration. Plus, my fuel consumption is going through the roof. Had a dodgy mechanic experience last time around, so I'm playing a bit of detective before I rush to another. Got a hunch it could be something to do with the Lambda sensor but wanted to check in here first. Have any of you guys faced similar problem and how did your mechanic handle it? Appreciate all feedback!

Hey there, Funny you should ask, I had to deal with something similar on my 2016 Nissan Juke just a few months ago. At first, I noticed my exhaust was noisier, then the black smoke and decreased power - just like you described. That shaky engine and skyrocketing fuel consumption tipped me off to something more serious though. Turns out, there was a nasty exhaust leak. The flashing 'check engine' light was my Catalytic Converter struggling due to it. It was not an issue I could have just sat on, took a bit of time in the shop to get everything squared away and working like a charm again. Keep in mind, exhaust system issues can have knock-on effects on other car components, and potentially your Lambda sensor. I'd recommend getting to another mechanic asap to properly diagnose. Hey bud, Yep, the exhaust leak sure did take my pocket for a ride - the cost came up to €265 to get it sealed back up. But trust me, that was absolutely worth it considering it would probably have cost more in the long run if I hadn't fixed it. After getting things sorted with the exhaust, I noticed I had a Lambda sensor defect. Got that fixed too, and since then, the old Juke's been running smooth, no problems. So, all's well that ends well, right? Stay on top of issues and hopefully, your Murano will be back in top-notch condition soon. Good luck!
