Power loss and engine problems with Toyota 4Runner Diesel 2005

Hi folks, I'm having some problems with my 2005 Toyota 4Runner (diesel), which has almost 194,000 km on the clock. For some time now, the check engine light has been on, the performance is poorer, the engine runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating, it sometimes stalls when idling and black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating. I suspect it could be due to a defect in the swirl flaps of the intake manifold. Have any of you had similar problems and experience at the garage? Would be very grateful for your advice or experience reports! Best regards!

Hi, I actually had a similar problem with my 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser (diesel). The symptoms were exactly the same - the jerking when accelerating, the bumpy engine running, even the black smoke from the exhaust. In the end, it was the swirl flap that was broken. The mechanic replaced it with a new one and that solved the problem. I have to say, it was a serious matter. The swirl flap has an important function in the combustion process and if it breaks, it can lead to all the problems you describe. I hope this helps you! Greetings!

Hey, thanks for your help! It really sounds like it could be similar with my 4Runner. Do you happen to remember what all the fun ended up costing you? Have you noticed any other problems since the repair? Thanks in advance! Best regards!

Hey, of course, no problem! The fun actually cost me €865 to repair the broken swirl flap. But since then the car has been running like clockwork again and no further problems have arisen. When I took the car to the mechanic, the intake manifold swirl flap defect was actually the main problem and it was fixed as a result. Stay tuned and give us an update on how your 4Runner is progressing! Best regards!

Hey, great, that's really helpful! I suppose it's worth it for me to do the same then. I guess 865€ is a small price to pay to get the car running smoothly again. I'm going to take it to the garage and get the swirl flap checked. If all goes well, I hope I don't have any further problems either. Thanks again for your support and I will keep you posted! Best regards!
