For some time now, the check engine light has been on, the performance is poorer, the engine runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating, it sometimes stalls when idling and black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating. I suspect it could be due to a defect in the swirl flaps of the intake manifold. Have any of you had similar problems and experience at the garage? Hi, I actually had a similar problem with my 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser (diesel). The symptoms were exactly the same - the jerking when accelerating, the bumpy engine running, even the black smoke from the exhaust. In the end, it was the swirl flap that was broken. The mechanic replaced it with a new one and that solved the problem. I have to say, it was a serious matter.
