Power Steering Faulty Mondeo

I have a 2000 Ford Mondeo with a diesel engine, mileage is at 147128 km. The power steering function is faulty. Symptoms include a vibrating/shaking steering wheel, spongy handling, an error stored in the error memory, and increased effort required when steering, as the power steering may have failed. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Any thoughts?

Woah, that sounds familiar! I had almost the same issue with my Mondeo. The vibrating steering wheel was the worst. Have you checked the fluid level? Also, did the error code point to anything specific? Mine turned out to be a dodgy connection.

Thanks for the swift response. I did check the fluid level, which seems to be normal. The error code unfortunately did not specify the exact location of the connection issue. Which connection was faulty on your Mondeo?

Ah, that's a pain. I can't remember exactly which connector it was, sorry! It was somewhere around the steering rack. Honestly, I'd suggest getting it looked at by a professional. Could save you a lot of time and hassle. Good luck!

Understood. I appreciate the insight. I followed your advice and took it to a workshop; indeed, it was a defective plug connection. Repair cost was 95€. Steering is back to normal now. Thanks again.
