Power window issue after battery replacement

On the BMW, after reconnecting the battery and starting the car, I'd roll each window all the way down, hold the button for maybe 5 seconds, then roll it all the way up and hold the button again for 5 seconds. Sometimes you'd hear a faint click, which was the 'aha!' moment. If that doesn't work, you might need professional help. I had to take mine to a workshop to have them re-initialize the system, and that fixed it.
