Presage AC failure
Summary of the thread
The air conditioning in a 2001 Nissan Presage diesel stopped cooling and won't switch on, with an AC warning light and a refrigerant compressor error detected. The problem could be due to a defective air conditioning control unit or the AC compressor itself. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the AC compressor, and it is advised to consult a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis. After a workshop diagnosis, the issue was confirmed to be the AC compressor, requiring replacement.

Thanks for the quick response! When you say you had similar symptoms, was it the AC compressor itself that failed, or was it indeed the control unit? Did the error code you scanned also point directly to the compressor? I'm trying to narrow down whether I can try replacing the compressor first, or if I should just bite the bullet and go after the control unit.

Given the symptoms and error code, it is best to consult a certified mechanic for a diagnosis. It is likely a refrigerant leak and you may need to replace the AC unit. I recommend taking your car to a workshop.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I've taken it to a local workshop, and after diagnosis, they've confirmed it's the AC compressor. Total cost will be around 980€ including parts and labor. A bit more than I hoped, but at least I know what the issue is.

I own a Presage as well. I had almost identical symptoms a while back. I'm not sure if your situation is the same, but it sounds awfully familiar. Could be the AC compressor.
