Presage Audio System Failure

I'm having audio issues with my 2006 Nissan Presage, gasoline engine. The entire audio system is dead. No sound, nothing. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. There's an error stored in the car's error memory that seems related. Could a defective display really knock out the whole system? I'm pulling my hair out here!

Summary of the thread

The audio system in a 2006 Nissan Presage is completely non-functional, with no sound or power to the head unit. Despite checking the fuses, the issue persists, and an error code suggests a problem with the display. A defective display unit is identified as a likely cause, as modern car audio systems are highly integrated, and a faulty display can disable the entire system. The recommended solution is to have the display unit diagnosed and potentially replaced by a professional workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's a bummer. A totally dead audio system is super annoying. Does the head unit power on at all? Any lights, even if there's no sound? Have you tried messing with the dashboard controls – volume knob, balance, fader – just in case something's wonky there? I'm just wondering if it's something simple before you dive into the deeper stuff.

Thanks for getting back to me! No, absolutely nothing on the head unit. It's completely dark. I've fiddled with all the dashboard controls you mentioned, but no luck. The weird thing is the error code seems to point to the display itself being the issue. Could that really kill the whole audio system like that?

Alright, total darkness and an error code pointing to the display... Yeah, that's sounding more and more like the display unit itself is the culprit. Modern car audio systems are so integrated; a faulty display can definitely take down the entire system. It's a pain, but at this point, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll have the proper diagnostic tools to confirm it and, unfortunately, replace the unit. It could be costly, I'm afraid.

Thanks a bunch! I appreciate the confirmation. I had a feeling it was going to be something like that. I took it to my local garage. Apparently, it was indeed the display unit and the cost to repair was 725€. I'll let you know what happens next!
