Presage engine power loss and smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Nissan Presage is experiencing engine power loss, smoke during acceleration, and an illuminated check engine light. The suspected cause is a faulty crankcase ventilation valve, which can lead to a lean engine condition, resulting in these symptoms. It is recommended to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional to confirm the issue and proceed with necessary repairs.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any obvious leaks, and the engine sounds normal apart from the power loss. Oil consumption seems normal too. Is there any way to be 100% sure it's the valve before I start replacing parts?

Without proper diagnostic tools, it's difficult to be completely sure. However, given the symptoms, the crankcase ventilation valve is a prime suspect. A faulty valve can cause the engine to run lean, leading to smoke and power loss. If you are in doubt, take it to a workshop. I estimate the repair cost at around 360€.

Okay, thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'll take it to a mechanic to get it properly diagnosed and fixed. I appreciate the help!

That combination of symptoms does point towards a crankcase ventilation problem. Have you checked for any obvious vacuum leaks or unusual noises coming from the engine? High oil consumption could also be related.
