President Camshaft Sensor Error

I'm experiencing a perplexing issue with my 2001 Nissan President, gasoline engine, with 156624 km on the clock. The engine starts poorly, and there's a noticeable reduction in engine power. I scanned it, and an error related to the camshaft sensor is stored. I've checked the sensor itself, but could a defective cable or plug connection be the real culprit? Anyone experienced something similar?

Hey there! That sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my Nissan Maxima, though it wasn't the President. The symptoms sound eerily familiar – rough idling and occasional stalling. Did you check the crankshaft sensor as well? Sometimes a faulty crankshaft sensor can throw off the camshaft sensor readings. Is it possible that you're getting engine misfires too?

Interesting point about the crankshaft sensor, thanks! I focused on the camshaft sensor because of the error code. But if the crankshaft sensor is off, could that really trigger a camshaft sensor error? And yes, there is some engine misfire also present. Is it possible to check the sensor signal?

Absolutely! It's like a domino effect. One sensor goes haywire, and the ECU gets confused. Given the misfires and the fact you've got an error code already, I would take it to a reliable workshop. Is it worth the hassle for such a small part anyway? It cost me around 95€ to get it sorted.

Thanks for the insight! I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll take it to a workshop as you suggested. I think you are right, I'm not really keen on tinkering around the engine myself anyway. The workshop confirmed the defective camshaft sensor and also found a corroded connector. They replaced the sensor and repaired the connector, and everything is running smoothly now.
