Primastar Power Loss Jerking Acceleration
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Nissan Primastar is experiencing power loss, jerking acceleration, and smoke emission. The issue is suspected to be knocking combustion, potentially due to deposits in the combustion chamber. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle checked by a workshop, where engine tuning and cleaning can address the deposits causing the problem. After professional intervention, the vehicle's performance improved significantly.

I always use the recommended fuel, but could that still cause it? If it is detonation, what's the best way to tackle those combustion chamber deposits? Is it like trying to clean a burnt pan?

If the fuel is correct, it's probably something more serious causing pre-ignition. I'd get it checked by a workshop. Could be cylinder heads or even ignition timing.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was deposits causing knocking combustion. They did some engine tuning and cleaned everything up. Cost me about 425€, but it's running much better now!

Sounds like detonation. Are you using the right fuel grade?
