Problems with 2008 BMW 1 Series gasoline engine: Black smoke, reduced engine performance and high fuel consumption

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2008 BMW 1 series gasoline engine. Strange behavior - black smoke coming out of the exhaust when accelerating, warning light on, engine power decreasing, jerking when accelerating and fuel consumption is high. My guess is that it's the NOx catalytic converter that is heavily loaded, but I'm not 100% sure yet. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me some tips on how your garage solved this? Would love to hear about your experiences and suggested solutions!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2006 BMW 3 series. I would say I have some experience with cars, but I'm definitely not a professional. At my garage they found that the NOx catalytic converter was clogged. The repair cost was 1350 euros, which wasn't cheap, but since then the problem has been fixed and the car is running perfectly again. I would need more information about your vehicle to be able to help you more precisely. How many kilometers does it have on it? Have all maintenance and inspections been carried out? Has it ever had a similar problem before? I hope this helps you a little!

Hi Antonio, it seems like you've mentioned a mileage but didn't provide any context or a question. Could you please provide more details about your car's issue or the question you have?

Hi Steven, while driving at high speeds on the highway can sometimes help to clear out a clogged catalytic converter, it's not a guaranteed fix. If the symptoms persist, it's important to have the vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic to avoid further damage. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?

Hi Daniel68, it seems like you've mentioned "Denox" but didn't provide any context or a question. Are you referring to the Denoxtronic system or a DeNOx catalytic converter in your vehicle? Could you please provide more details about your car's issue or the question you have?

Hi Andreas2906, the issue you're experiencing could be due to a number of reasons such as a faulty spark plug, clogged fuel injectors, or a failing mass air flow sensor. I would recommend starting with the easiest check - inspect the spark plugs and replace them if necessary. If the problem persists, consider having a professional mechanic inspect the fuel injectors and the mass air flow sensor. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
