Problems with acceleration, increased fuel consumption and black smoke in a BMW 3 Series (2007, gasoline engine)
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The 2007 BMW 3 Series is experiencing issues with acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and black smoke emission. The engine check lamp is also illuminated. The owner suspects the problem could be due to a heavy load on the NOx catalytic converter. Advice from the community suggests checking the exhaust system for leaks and having the NOx catalytic converter inspected at a garage. The owner is advised to repair any issues promptly to prevent further deterioration and higher costs.

Hey, thanks for the quick feedback! My Bimmer already has 148217 km on the clock and was last serviced five months ago. It was often driven with a full load, could really be the NOx catalytic converter. I never thought something like this could happen and now I'm annoyed! It usually drives like a dream. But well, I'll take your tips into account and address the problem at my garage. Thanks again, that was very helpful!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for, right? And yes, 148217 km is quite a long distance. The load can actually lead to a heavy load on the NOx catalytic converter, especially if the car is frequently fully loaded. My tip to you would be to have this checked at the garage. And if it is the problem, then despite the unpleasant costs, it is better to have it repaired than to let the condition get worse. This may save you even more trouble and expense in the long run. Hope this helps you and your Bimmer will soon be fit again!

Thanks for the advice and support! Yes, you're right, it's definitely better to fix it now rather than let it deteriorate further. I will take the car to the garage asap and get it checked for the NOx catalytic converter. Let's see what the diagnosis will be. I hope it gets fixed quickly and my Bimmer can get back on the road. Thanks again and I will post here when the problem is finally fixed. Have a nice day!

Unfortunately, requesting desulphurization does not work. Furthermore, it is not possible to delete the engine adaptation

What kind of car do you have exactly? If you have a problem with the app, please get in touch with our support team ;)

the car is a BMW e93 320i year 05/2011 The problem: Engine control light comes on after a few kilometers. In the diagnosis, errors are displayed for the lambda sensor before the catalytic converter (line error, heating of the lambda sensor) The NOX catalytic converter is sulphurized Desulphurization cannot be started and was also unsuccessful, sulphurization continues to increase even at a constant 130 km/h and above. Homogeneous operation is displayed, lambda before catalyst is 1.72 during normal driving on country roads Resetting the engine adaptations does not work either

P.S. both lambda sensors were already replaced about 3000km ago, then it worked for a while, but since about 1500km again these massive problems

Hello, the error of the lambda sensors is not entered in the error memory again after they have been replaced? Have you saved an error for the NOX sensor?

Hello, Yes, the errors keep coming back (after clearing the error, approx. every 20 - 25 km) I have already made a workshop appointment (unfortunately not possible until the beginning of July), as I suspect a problem with the wiring. What interests me in relation to Carly is why I can't trigger desulphurization and why I can't delete the engine adaptations

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2005 BMW 5 Series. My experience with cars is average, I would say. The problem was actually with my exhaust system, which was leaking. I had it fixed at my regular garage and ended up paying 265 euros for it. It was definitely worth it, since then my Bimmer has been running like clockwork again. Could you perhaps give more details about your car? How many kilometers has it driven? Was it often driven fully loaded or not? That might help pinpoint where the problem lies. Hope this helps!
