Problems with BMW 3 Series 2002 petrol engine: Engine indicator light, loss of power and suspected defective Valvetronic system

Hey, I have a problem with my BMW 3 Series, model year 2002, gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, there is a loss of power, the engine runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating and the fuel consumption is high. In addition, there is the valve adjustment noise, strange engine noises and metal shavings in the oil. My assumption is that the Valvetronic system is not working correctly. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me tips on how to isolate the problem? How did you get it fixed at your garage and what was your experience? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I have changed the velvetronic and the eccentric sensor and I still get engine failure the engine starts but it does not lack power I do not know where the failure of the valvetronic comes from because it is new.

Hi Izarrv, if you've already replaced the Valvetronic and the eccentric sensor and you're still experiencing issues, it could be a problem with the wiring or the engine control module. I would suggest checking the wiring for any signs of damage or corrosion, and ensure all connections are secure. If everything seems fine, it might be a good idea to have the engine control module checked by a professional. This is a more complex issue that requires specialized equipment to diagnose. Please let us know how it goes and if you have any other questions.

Hi Andy12, the error code 002A61 indicates an issue with the Valvetronic system's ability to adapt, which could be due to a variety of factors. It could be a mechanical issue such as a worn or damaged servomotor, a problem with the eccentric shaft or its sensor, or even a software issue. I would recommend starting with a visual inspection of the Valvetronic system and its wiring. If you can't find any obvious issues, it might be best to take your car to a professional mechanic for a thorough diagnosis. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
