Problems with engine stuttering, black smoke and increased fuel consumption in Mercedes SL Class 2016 - searching for solutions

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Mercedes SL Class (diesel, built in 2016) that is really driving me crazy. While driving, the engine stutters, stalls at idle and generates black smoke during acceleration. In addition, there is a persistent jerking, loss of engine power and the fuel consumption is also higher than normal. The strong smell of exhaust fumes is also unpleasant. And the check engine light is constantly illuminated. I suspect that the low-pressure fuel system sensor could be faulty, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me tips on how this was solved in the workshop? I am grateful for any tips!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Mercedes CLA (diesel, year of manufacture 2014). I'm not a mechanic, but I know my way around a bit. At my garage, they found that the cable connections were defective. I paid 95 euros for the repair and after that there were no more problems. It would be helpful if you could give me more information about your vehicle so that I can help you more precisely. Exactly which model variant do you have and how many kilometers has your car covered?

Hey, thanks for your reply and help. Great that it was just the cable connections for you. My SL Class is a 2016 model and now has a whopping 193297 km on the clock. Mmh, could really be anything, right? Hope this helps you to help me a bit more. Thanks a lot!

Hey, no problem! You can really expect some problems with the mileage. You're right, there could actually be a lot of causes. It could be the low pressure fuel system sensor as you initially suspected, especially if the cables seem to be OK. Just to be sure, have you had the fault code read out yet? A marten bite could also be a possibility that has caused a fault in the fuel lines. It would also be helpful to know if the problem occurred suddenly or if it developed slowly. Either way, I would recommend that you have it diagnosed at the garage. It makes troubleshooting a lot easier if you have an accurate fault code to work with. Man, I really hope you can get this resolved soon. It's so frustrating when the car is acting up. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your detailed suggestions and tips. The error code has not yet been read out. The problem occurred rather suddenly. A marten bite could really be possible, as there are quite a few in our area. I'll make an appointment at the garage and hope that it's nothing serious and that the repair remains affordable. You're right, it's really exasperating when the car suddenly starts having problems. Well, we'll see what happens. Thanks again for your help!
