Problems with Ford Falcon 2009: Black smoke, starting difficulties and loss of power
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Ford Falcon is experiencing issues such as black smoke during acceleration, starting difficulties, loss of power, rough idling, and engine jerking. The suspected cause is a fault in the mixture preparation. Possible causes include a defective fuel pressure regulator, poor quality gasoline, or a clogged air filter. Solutions suggested include checking and possibly replacing the fuel pressure regulator and air filter, and trying higher quality gasoline from a different station.

Hey, thanks for your answer. My speedometer reads 80682 km, so I haven't done that many kilometers yet. I've actually filled up twice since the problem occurred. Fortunately, the car has never had an accident. I'll take your tip about the fuel pressure regulator to the garage, maybe it really is that. Other ideas are of course also welcome!

Hi again! With just 80k km on the odometer, a defective fuel pressure regulator would be rather unusual, but of course you can't rule it out. Another thing that occurs to me: If you have recently filled up with cheaper or poorer quality gasoline, you could possibly have moderate combustion. This can cause the symptoms you describe. Have you ever tried filling up at a different gas station or with higher quality gasoline? It could also be a clogged or dirty air filter, which I once had in my Mondeo. A new air filter worked wonders and wasn't expensive. Have it checked at the garage. Let me know what it was in the end, I would be very interested. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing too expensive. Greetings!

Hi, I've always filled up at the same gas station so far, maybe I should change that and see if it has anything to do with it. The tip about the air filter is also very helpful, thanks, I'll mention it to the garage. Yes, I also hope that the repair won't be too expensive. I'll let you know as soon as I find out more. Thanks again for your support. Take care, I'll be in touch!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2007 Ford Mondeo. I'm not actually a mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. At my garage, they replaced the fuel pressure regulator, which was defective. It cost around 250 euros. Your problem could also be due to the fuel pressure regulator, but I would need a bit more information about your car to be able to say for sure. How many kilometers have you already driven? How often have you refueled since the problem started? Has the car ever been in an accident?
