Problems with Mercedes Citan 2013: Engine control light illuminated and high fuel consumption - possibility of a defective intake manifold pressure sensor

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my 2013 Mercedes Citan with a gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, the engine has lost power and is running rough, it jerks when accelerating and the fuel consumption is high. I think maybe the intake manifold pressure sensor is going crazy. Have any of you had experience with symptoms like this? How did the garage fix it? Any tips and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2011 Mercedes Vito. I would describe myself as someone with some experience in car repairs. The problem was diagnosed at my garage - the fault was "The intake manifold pressure sensor wiring harness is open or shorted." The repair cost me 95 euros at the time. Can you give us more details about your car? Which warning lights are on exactly? The more details you can give us, the better we can help you.

Thank you for your answer. So the check engine light is the only one that lights up for me. So, I actually did a service recently and the odometer reading is now at 1898 km. I also checked the intake manifold pressure sensor and didn't see any obvious damage, but of course can't guarantee it's not spinning. I was hoping that it wasn't the wiring harness, 95 euros isn't that much, but if it's just a sensor, it could be done more cheaply. Let's see what the garage says. But thanks for the tip!

Hello, no problem, always happy to help. Based on your description and my experience, I would say that it is quite possible that the intake manifold pressure sensor is actually faulty. The faulty sensor is probably triggering the check engine light and causing the other symptoms. However, having the error codes read out would be a good first step. If it's just the sensor, you might be lucky and it won't cost that much. For me it was the wiring harness at the time, but I've heard that a new sensor is usually around the euro. If you have a bit of skill, you can probably fit it yourself. Whether the engine control light comes on because of the intake manifold pressure sensor is best confirmed by the workshop. I hope that it really is just the sensor and you don't have any more costs. Good luck and let me know what comes out!

Hello again! I will definitely have the garage determine the exact cause. But your info is really helpful, good to know that the sensor isn't that expensive if that's the problem. It's also good to know that I might even be able to fit it myself if it's just the sensor. In any case, I'll have the error codes read out and then see what the garage says. And of course, I'll let you know what comes out in the end. Thanks again for your advice!
