Problems with the check engine light and engine performance on the Opel Mokka 2019

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my Opel Mokka, year 2019, gasoline engine. The check engine light comes on, the engine just shuts off from time to time, the power decreases, the engine runs rough and sometimes the car won't even start. There is also a warning light in the speedometer and a stored error. I suspect a fault in the engine control unit, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar experiences? How have you been able to solve this in the workshop? Any tips are welcome!

Summary of the thread

The Opel Mokka 2019 is experiencing issues with the check engine light and engine performance. The engine occasionally shuts off, runs roughly, and sometimes fails to start. The suspected cause is a fault in the engine control unit. The car displayed error codes P0017 and P0302, indicating issues with the crankshaft position-camshaft position timing and a misfire in cylinder 2. Possible causes include a faulty ignition coil, damaged spark plug cap, worn or defective spark plug, blocked combustion chamber, or issues with the timing belt. The recommended solution is to take the car in for repair.

Hi, I have a 2017 Opel Crossland X and had a similar problem. I wouldn't call myself a car professional, but I do have some experience. At my garage, they scanned the car and found that there was a sporadic faulty communication issue between the ECUs. This was fixed and although it cost me 955.0 euros, the car now runs perfectly. Quick question, what fault codes were displayed on your car? That might help me to give you more information.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Good to hear that everything has been sorted out for you. My Mokka was displaying error codes P0017 and P0302. I've driven about 109675 km so far and the last service was not too long ago. I hope this helps!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! These error codes are actually very interesting. P0017 refers to the problem of the crankshaft position-camshaft position timing premature exhaust. This means that the engine control computer detects that the position of your car's crankshaft and camshaft are not synchronized as intended. In addition, the code P0302 indicates a misfire in cylinder 2. It could well be that a faulty ignition coil, a damaged spark plug cap, a worn or defective spark plug or a blocked combustion chamber is the cause of these problems. In my opinion, it could also be a problem with the timing belt or the timing belt guide. When this happened to me I immediately took it in for repair, I would suggest you do the same. Hopefully you get somewhere with it!

Wow, thanks for the detailed information! It sounds like one of these things could actually be the problem. At least now I have an idea of what could be wrong and where I can check with the garage. I will have the car checked as soon as possible and hope that the damage is not too bad. Thank you very much for your help, that was very helpful!

Hello everyone, my Opel Mokka has recently started to run unevenly only when stationary, i.e. idling, after which the engine control light comes on immediately. It has been to the garage several times because of this, without success ... Would be very grateful if someone could help me... Claudia
