Problems with the gear selection display and warning light on Opel Crossland 2018 - causes and suggested solutions?

Hey guys, my Opel Crossland built in 2018 with a gasoline engine has been causing stress recently. The gear selection display in the speedometer doesn't work and the warning light comes on. I suspect that a malfunction in the clutch pedal switch may be the cause. Do you have any experience with such problems or tips on how to solve them? How did you get this sorted out at your garage? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2016 Opel Mokka, also a gasoline model. I'd say I have a bit of experience with cars, but I'm definitely not an expert. I was also confused at first until I took the car to the garage. They then discovered that the engine control unit was faulty. Unfortunately it wasn't cheap, it cost me 1000.0 euros. It could well be that you have the same problem, but to be on the safe side, can you give me more information about the problem? For example, do the problems always occur or only sometimes? Have you noticed any other symptoms? The more details, the better I may be able to help you.

Hey, thanks for your reply! Your tip about the engine control unit sounds plausible, that could really be the problem. To answer your questions: the problems don't always occur, but they have been quite frequent for a few days now. I haven't noticed any other symptoms so far. I've only recently reached the 76507 km mark and the last service was only a few months ago. Do you think I should contact my garage and get this checked out as soon as possible? Maybe they'll know something if I tell them about your engine control unit tip.

Hey, thanks for the info! As the problems are quite common and you haven't noticed any other symptoms, I would definitely recommend taking the car to the garage as soon as possible. It's always good to get things like this sorted out early to avoid potential major damage. Regarding the engine control unit, tell that to the people at the garage, that could actually be the reason for your problem. Although I'm no expert, this may give them a clue. Also tell them that you had similar symptoms and that the repair on my Mokka solved the problem. But don't try to fix the problem yourself if you're not sure what you're doing. That could only make the situation worse. So stay safe and let the professionals do it. Good luck, hopefully it's not too bad!

Hey, thanks for the great advice! I'll take note of your feedback and make an appointment at the garage as soon as possible. It makes sense not to try and solve this problem yourself if you're not 100% sure what you're doing. I will give them your advice on the engine control unit. Hopefully that can act as a guide for them. I'll keep you posted and hopefully it's not too bad!
