ProMaster Diesel Engine Jerks and Stalls During Drive

My ProMaster 2015 diesel is acting up with rough running and stalling issues. The check engine light is on and the engine jerks during acceleration. Based on my research, this could be a faulty fuel pressure sensor causing problems with fuel delivery. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their van? Previously had a bad experience with repairs, so looking for honest feedback before choosing where to get it fixed. Van has 128130 km on the clock. Any advice on repair costs or trusted solutions would be great.

Had similar symptoms on a ProMaster 2018 diesel. The rough running and engine misfire turned out to be a combination of a faulty fuel pressure sensor and compromised electrical connections. The fuel delivery system was getting incorrect readings, causing the engine control unit to deliver improper fuel amounts. The repair involved testing the entire fuel injector system and replacing the fuel pressure sensor. The wiring harness also needed attention due to corrosion at connection points. This was a significant repair that required specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify the failing components. The fuel economy improved dramatically after the fix, and the engine misfires completely stopped. The check engine light cleared and never returned. This type of issue typically requires professional attention as it involves the complex fuel management system. Consider getting the diagnostic codes read first. The symptoms match fuel delivery problems, but proper testing will confirm if its the pressure sensor or possibly a failing fuel injector. These issues tend to worsen if left unaddressed and could potentially cause more extensive engine damage.

Thanks for sharing your experience. You just described exactly what my van was doing. I got mine fixed last month and it turned out the fuel pressure sensor was indeed the culprit, along with one bad fuel injector that was stuck partially open. The engine runs smooth now and no more stalling issues. How much did your repair end up costing? Also curious if youve had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? My mechanic mentioned I should keep an eye on the fuel pump as it might need attention in the future, but so far everything seems stable.

Just checked back in since getting that repair done. My fix was much simpler than yours, turned out to be just the fuel pressure sensor with a faulty cable connection. Total bill came to 95€ for the repair work, which seems fair since the rough idle and engine misfire symptoms completely cleared up after fixing it. The van runs perfectly now, with no issues since the repair three months ago. Fuel economy is back to normal and that annoying stalling problem is completely gone. Your mechanic makes a good point about monitoring the fuel pump, but in my case, the pressure sensor was the only component that needed attention. Nice to hear you got yours sorted too, even though your repair was more extensive with that stuck injector. These fuel delivery problems can be tricky to diagnose, but once fixed properly, these vans run really reliably.

Got my van back from the shop last week and wanted to update everyone. The mechanic found exactly what we suspected, a bad fuel pressure sensor and one problematic fuel injector. The repair took about 4 hours total. Parts and labor came to 650€, which included a full fuel system cleaning. The rough idle is completely gone now and the engine runs perfectly smooth. No more jerking during acceleration or stalling issues. The check engine light cleared right after the repair and hasnt come back. Fuel economy has improved noticeably too. The mechanic showed me the old parts, the fuel injector was pretty gunked up and the pressure sensor had obvious electrical damage. They recommended regular fuel system cleaning every 30000 km to prevent similar issues. Going to stay on top of that maintenance schedule from now on. Really glad I asked here first and got some good advice. The symptoms matched up exactly with what others experienced, which helped me avoid getting unnecessary repairs.
