Puma oxygen sensor fault

I've got a 2001 Ford Puma with a gasoline engine and nearly 200,000 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light keeps popping up. I scanned it and it's showing an error related to the oxygen sensor. I've also noticed slightly higher fuel consumption than usual. I checked the sensor itself and the wiring looks okay, but maybe the cable or plug connection is defective?

I had a similar issue with my Puma. That check engine light is annoying, right? Higher fuel consumption too, ugh! When you say the wiring 'looks' okay, did you actually test it with a multimeter? Sometimes visual inspections aren't enough. Also, which oxygen sensor is it? There are usually two - one before and one after the catalytic converter. Knowing which one will help narrow things down.

Good point about testing the wiring properly. I only did a visual check. As for the sensor, the error code refers to the one before the catalytic converter. I don't have a multimeter at hand right now. Is it possible to drive to a workshop with this issue?

Okay, the upstream sensor is more critical for fuel mixture. Yeah, you can probably drive it to a workshop, but be aware that continued driving with a faulty oxygen sensor can potentially damage your catalytic converter over time, which is a much more expensive repair. It's probably best to get it checked out sooner rather than later. My issue turned out to be a corroded connection, causing a similar problem. The workshop fixed it pretty quickly.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get it to a local workshop this week. They quoted me about 95€ for a replacement or repair, so hopefully, it's a simple fix like yours.
