Punto Power Steering Vibration

Hi, I'm having a real headache with the power steering on my 2000 Fiat Punto with a gasoline engine. It's got about 249576 km on the clock. Lately, the steering wheel has been vibrating quite badly, and the handling feels really spongy. I also scanned for error codes and found one related to the power steering. It's getting increasingly difficult to steer, almost like the power steering is failing intermittently. I've checked the hydraulic fluid level, which seems fine. I suspect a dodgy cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I had a similar issue with my Punto. Same symptoms, vibrating steering and heavy steering at times. Never scanned it for codes though. Have you checked the pressure hose for any leaks or kinks? That's where I'd start.

It runs from the pump to the steering rack. You should be able to see it from underneath the car. But honestly, I'd get it checked at a workshop. It could be a lot of things, and you don't want to mess with the steering system yourself if you're not sure.

Thanks! I took your advice and brought it to a local mechanic. Turns out it was indeed a faulty connection, like I suspected. They cleaned it up and secured it properly. Total cost was 95€. Steering is back to normal now!
