Punto starting issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Fiat Punto with a gasoline engine was experiencing starting issues, flickering lights, and malfunctioning systems, suspected to be due to a voltage problem, possibly related to the battery. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by checking for a parasitic draw and monitoring battery voltage. It was suggested to check the battery voltage after the car sits unused, with anything below 12.4V being suspicious. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing the defective battery, restoring the vehicle's functionality.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the voltage as you suggested. What voltage drop would be considered significant? And did you manage to find what was causing the power drain on your Opel?

Anything below 12.4V after sitting is suspicious. I never tracked down the exact cause of the drain myself. I took it to a workshop, and they diagnosed it quickly. Save yourself time, take it to an experienced mechanic.

OK, I appreciate the advice. I took it to the mechanic, and you were right – battery was heavily discharged and defective. New battery installed, cost me around 290€. Everything's running smoothly again. Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, same symptoms. It turned out to be a parasitic draw draining the battery overnight. Check your battery voltage after the car has been sitting unused for a few hours. Is it significantly lower than when you last drove it?
