Q5 Wiper Spray Jets Dead Despite Full Washer Fluid

My Q5 2008 got an error code and the wiper system isnt working anymore. The dashboard light came up for low washer fluid, but I filled it up and nothing changed. The spray jets wont spray and my mechanic last time charged me way too much for a simple repair. Before I go back there, has anyone dealt with this issue? Its a 2.0L gasoline with just 36608 KM. Any tips on what to check first or what the repair might cost?

Recently fixed a similar windshield washer issue on my A4 2011 2.0TFSI. The warning light persisted even after refilling the fluid level, which pointed to a common fault in these systems. The problem often stems from three potential issues: Clogged spray jets from mineral buildup, Faulty fluid level sensor, Failed washer pump First check: Remove and clean the spray jets with a thin wire. If still not working, verify the pump runs when activating washers. You should hear a whirring sound from the front. No sound means either an electrical connection issue or failed pump. In my case, the windshield cleaning system needed a new washer pump and level sensor replacement. Not a major repair in terms of complexity, but important for safety especially during winter or dusty conditions. Worth checking fuse box first, locate the windshield washer fuse and verify it hasnt blown. Most auto parts stores can test the pump function if you remove it. These issues are common across the entire model range and usually not serious if addressed promptly.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. Mine turned out to be a faulty pump like yours, but I dealt with some clogged spray jets along the way too. The washer fluid levels were also wrong because of that broken sensor. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? My total came to around 280 Euro parts and labor, but prices seem to vary quite a bit. Also wondering if youve had any other windshield washer system issues since getting it fixed?

After seeing the mechanic for my A4s windshield washer problems, everything works perfectly now. My repair bill was much lower at 25 Euro since it mainly involved fixing the washer fluid sensor and adjusting the fluid levels correctly. The warning light issue completely resolved once they recalibrated the sensor, and the spray jets now function exactly as they should. Its been six months since the repair with no windshield cleaning problems whatsoever. The system sprays consistently and the fluid level readings stay accurate. 280 Euro does seem quite steep compared to my experience, though costs can vary if they needed to replace the entire pump in your case. The key is that these systems are relatively straightforward to diagnose and repair once you identify the specific component causing the issue.

Thanks for the input. I finally got everything sorted with my Q5s washer system. After checking the forum advice, I took it to a different mechanic who diagnosed it properly. The washer motor was completely dead and some spray jets were clogged as well. Total repair came to 170 Euro including parts and labor, which was much better than my previous mechanics quote. The new shop cleaned out all the spray jets, replaced the washer motor, and fixed the sensor. The warning light is now off and the system works perfectly. Just wanted to close this thread in case anyone else runs into similar issues. Much cheaper than I initially feared after getting ripped off last time. The whole repair took about an hour and everything has worked flawlessly for the past few weeks.
