Q50 Hybrid Climate Control Failure: Fix & Shop Tips

Title: Infiniti Q50 Hybrid (2020) Climate Control Issues & Mechanic Advice Needed Hey everyone, having some trouble with my 2020 Infiniti Q Hybrid (241k km). The heating and cooling system isn't working properly anymore. Last mechanic visit was pretty disappointing, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar climate control issues with their Infiniti? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Infiniti hybrids too. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The 2020 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid experienced climate control issues, specifically with the heating and cooling system. A similar problem was identified in another Infiniti model, where the electric auxiliary heater was defective, affecting the entire climate control system. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle serviced by an Infiniti dealer or a certified hybrid specialist, as these issues are complex and require expertise. The repair involves replacing the auxiliary heater unit, which resolves the problem and restores proper climate control functionality.

I had a similar issue with my 2017 Infiniti Q60 Hybrid last winter. The electric auxiliary heater was acting up the cabin wouldn't warm up properly and the heating was inconsistent. The diagnostic showed that the auxiliary heater was defective and needed replacement. It wasn't just a simple fix like a fuse or relay. My regular mechanic didn't feel comfortable with hybrid systems, so I took it to the Infiniti dealership. They found that the electric heating element had failed completely. This is actually a serious issue because it affects the whole climate control system and can impact the hybrid system's efficiency. They had to replace the entire auxiliary heater unit. The job took about a day and a half because they needed to partially dismantle the dashboard to access the heater assembly. After the repair, the heating system worked perfectly again. If you're having similar symptoms, I'd recommend going straight to an Infiniti dealer or a specialist who's certified to work on hybrids. These climate control issues in hybrids are pretty complex and need someone who knows what they're doing. Hope this helps with your decision!

Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's super helpful. Quick follow-up do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? And have you had any other heating/cooling problems since they fixed it? Sounds like going to the dealer was the right call, but those bills can be scary sometimes!

Hey there! Yes, absolutely I can tell you exactly what it cost me. The total bill came to 350€ for fixing the electric auxiliary heater. And I've got good news since getting it fixed at the dealer, the climate control has been working like a charm! Not a single problem with heating or cooling. The dealer really knew what they were doing with my Q60 Hybrid, and it was worth every penny to get it sorted properly. It's been about a year now, and everything's still running perfectly. The cabin heats up quickly and maintains a consistent temperature, which was exactly the issue I was having before. I know dealer prices can be a bit eye-watering, but for hybrid-specific issues like this, it's definitely the way to go. The peace of mind knowing it's properly fixed is worth it. Plus, they really do know these cars inside and out. Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks again for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my Q50 to the Infiniti dealer yesterday. You were right they found the same issue with the auxiliary heater. Bill came to about 400€, a bit more than yours, but I guess that's inflation for you! The service was actually really good. They explained everything clearly and even showed me the old part. Took them about two days because they had to order the part, but the actual work was done in a day. The car's running great now cabin heats up properly and the AC is back to normal too. Definitely learned my lesson about trying to save money with regular mechanics for hybrid-specific issues. Should've just gone to the dealer first! Would've saved me time and headaches. Thanks again for pushing me in the right direction really appreciate it! Guess that's my car drama sorted for now... until the next thing breaks!
