Thanks for sharing that detailed experience. Had the exact same voltage drop symptoms with my Q7 back then. The alternator issue started similar to yours, weird electrical glitches and that dreaded morning start problem. Just wondering, what did the total alternator replacement cost you in the end? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix? My charging system hasnt given me any trouble after the repair, but Id be curious to hear about your longer-term experience.

Got my alternator replacement done 8 months ago and it cost 960 Euro total. The charging system has been working flawlessly since then. The voltage drop issues completely disappeared after the repair, and the car starts perfectly every morning now. The repair fixed all those annoying electrical problems, no more flickering lights or engine misfire warnings. They also checked the serpentine belt while they were in there, which was a smart preventive measure. The investment was worth it since a failing alternator can cause expensive damage to other electrical components if left unfixed. The hybrid system is also working much better now that its getting proper voltage. Most importantly, the battery holds a consistent charge, which was the main issue before the alternator replacement. Looking back, getting it fixed at the first signs of charging system problems was definitely the right call. Going on 8 months now without a single electrical issue.

Thanks for the input. Finally got my Q7 fixed last week and wanted to share my experience. Took it to a certified shop specializing in hybrid systems. The alternator replacement cost me 890 Euro including parts and labor. The serpentine belt needed changing too since it showed wear marks. They found the voltage regulator had completely failed, which explained all those electrical gremlins. The whole job took about 5 hours. They did a thorough check of the car electronics and charging system during the repair. The mechanic actually showed me the worn components and explained everything clearly. Its been a week now and what a difference, no more flickering lights, strong starts every morning, and all warning lights are gone. The hybrid system is working perfectly again with stable voltage readings. Definitely learned my lesson about addressing electrical issues quickly. The car feels like new and Im relieved to have found a competent shop that knew what they were doing with hybrid systems.

Had similar alternator issues with my 2019 Audi Q5 Hybrid last winter. The symptoms match exactly, flickering lights, weak engine performance, and hard starts are classic signs of alternator failure. The alternator replacement was necessary as the voltage regulator inside had failed, causing inconsistent power delivery to the electrical systems. This affected both the conventional and hybrid powertrains. The repair required specialized diagnostic equipment due to the hybrid system integration. The job took about 6 hours because accessing the alternator in these models requires removing several components. Given the mileage on your Q7, this is a common wear point for the charging system. The starter motor was also tested during diagnosis since starting problems can indicate multiple electrical issues. Would strongly recommend having this addressed soon, as continuing to drive with alternator issues can damage other car electronics and potentially leave you stranded. The battery will eventually drain completely if the alternator isnt charging properly. The complete fix included: Full alternator replacement, Battery load testing, Checking all main electrical connections, Computer system reset, Extended road test to verify charging system performance This was a serious repair that required an authorized shop with hybrid experience.
