Qashqai Engine Stalling Rail Pressure Sensor

I'm pulling my hair out. My 2023 Nissan Qashqai with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. Got 127872 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and the engine randomly stalls at idle, plus I've noticed a significant drop in power. I scanned it and it's throwing a code related to the rail pressure sensor signal being faulty. I'm guessing the sensor itself is buggered. Anyone else seen this before?

Sounds familiar! I had similar shenanigans with my Qashqai (don't remember the exact year), though mine didn't stall every time. That 'rail pressure' they're talking about is basically the fuel pressure in the fuel rail that feeds the injectors. A faulty sensor can definitely cause the ECU (Engine Control Unit) to misread the fuel pressure and mess with the fuel injection, hence the stalling and power loss. Have you tried checking the wiring to the sensor itself? Sometimes it's just a loose connection or damaged wire.

Yeah, I gave the wiring a quick once-over, didn't spot anything obvious like a broken or chafed wire. But I'll admit I didn't go super in-depth. Where exactly is the rail pressure sensor located on these engines? Maybe if I knew the exact location, I could get a better look at the connector and wiring.

Okay, if you didn't find any obvious issues, going deeper is a good idea, but be careful. The sensor is usually located on the fuel rail itself, often near the fuel injectors. I'd say at this point you should consider a shop. In my case, I also checked the sensor and the cables, but it turned out to be a faulty sensor. The mechanic swapped it out, cleared the code, and it's been running smoothly ever since.

Roger that. Sounds like I'm chasing a ghost here. I'll bite the bullet and take it to the shop. Thanks for the info! It's probably a faulty sensor as you said. The repair cost me 240€, including the sensor and labor. Runs like new now!
