Qashqai immobilizer issue

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2014 Nissan Qashqai diesel. The engine refuses to start. It starts very briefly, only to stop again almost immediately. There's an error suggesting an immobilizer problem. Could this be caused by incorrect key programming? The car has 141318 km on the clock. I have checked the battery and fuses.

Summary of the thread

The 2014 Nissan Qashqai diesel is experiencing an immobilizer issue, causing the engine to start briefly and then stop. The problem may be due to incorrect key programming, as indicated by the security light. Suggested solutions include trying a spare key or having the key reprogrammed at a workshop. Ultimately, a diagnostic check and key reprogramming resolved the issue.

Sounds frustrating! Did the security light come on at all? I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although it was a petrol engine. The symptoms you describe - starts then immediately cuts out - were identical. Have you tried a spare key, or are you just relying on one? It might be worth trying that first.

Thank you for your suggestion. Yes, the security light does indeed illuminate. I have only one key. If the key programming is incorrect, is there a method to rectify this without replacing the entire immobilizer system? Or should I consider an immobilizer bypass?

The security light coming on is a classic symptom. I wouldn't advise an immobilizer bypass unless you really know what you're doing; that can cause more problems than it solves. With my Megane, I tried everything, but in the end, I had to take it to a workshop. They reprogrammed the key, and that sorted it out. I suspect you'll have to do the same. Why not just ring them?

Understood. I appreciate the advice. It seems a trip to the workshop is unavoidable. After a diagnostic check and key reprogramming, the issue has been resolved. The key was indeed the problem. Repair cost was 45€. Thank you for sharing your experience.
