R Klasse Power Seat Issue Resolved

My 2009 Mercedes R Klasse diesel has a passenger electric seat that stopped working with only 32426 km. The error memory stores a fault, and seat adjustment is impossible. Could a heavily discharged or defective battery be the cause? Has anyone encountered a similar problem and can offer insights into diagnosing the seat switch or seat harness?

I haven't experienced that exact issue in an R Klasse, but similar electric seat problems in other Mercedes models can often be traced to voltage drops. A weak battery can cause seemingly unrelated electrical issues. Before condemning the seat motor or delving into the seat harness, have you load tested the battery? Think of it like checking blood pressure before an MRI. Is the error code specific? A generic 'seat fault' isn't as helpful.

The error code is rather generic. I will perform a load test on the battery. Could a faulty seat switch also manifest in this manner, even with a low battery? I am attempting to understand the relationship between these components.

A faulty seat switch could theoretically cause problems, but given the error code and the fact that these power seats are quite power hungry, a weak battery is the prime suspect. It's like trying to run a marathon on an empty stomach. While other issues are possible, addressing the most likely cause first will save time and expense. If the battery checks out, then further diagnostics at a workshop will likely be required to check the seat harness and motor.

The battery was indeed the culprit, exhibiting significantly reduced capacity under load. Replacing it resolved the issue entirely, and the error code is now cleared. The total repair cost, including the new battery and labor, amounted to 290€. Thanks for the help.
