Ractis low coolant level

Hi, I have a 2009 Toyota Ractis with a gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light came on and I found an error stored in the error memory. I checked and noticed the coolant level is too low. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Hey! I had a similar problem with my Ractis. Have you checked for any leaks around the radiator hoses or the water pump? It could also be a head gasket issue, though hopefully, it's not that serious.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the water pump specifically, but I didn't see any obvious leaks around the radiator hoses. Is it easy to check the water pump myself, or is that more of a mechanic's job?

It can be tricky to properly inspect the water pump without removing some parts. Given your symptoms, and since you haven't found any hose leaks, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it checked. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to a workshop, and it turned out the coolant level was indeed too low because of a small leak. They fixed it for 52€. Problem solved!
