Ractis MAF sensor issue

Having trouble with my 2006 Toyota Ractis, gasoline engine. It's got 124881 km on it. I think the mass air flow meter (LMM) is defective. I'm seeing higher fuel consumption, the engine sometimes stalls at idle, the check engine light is on, and it smokes when I accelerate. Sounds like a defective MAF sensor, right?

Interesting. I had similar symptoms with my Ractis, though I didn't immediately suspect the MAF sensor. Was the performance decline gradual, or did it happen suddenly? Also, have you checked for any obvious air intake leaks? A faulty air-fuel ratio can be a real pain.

The performance decline was pretty gradual. I haven't checked for any air intake leaks, I'll take a look. But wouldn't that throw a different code? What was the problem with your car, if it wasn't the MAF?

Turns out it WAS the MAF sensor after all! It mimics other issues. My experience aligns with a slow degradation of sensor performance over time. Given your symptoms and mileage, and the absence of other obvious causes, I'd bet that's your culprit too. Get it checked at a workshop; a replacement should sort it out. I ended up paying around 365€ for parts and labor.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate you sharing your experience. Took your advice and went to the workshop. They confirmed it was the MAF sensor. Got it replaced, and everything's running smoothly again!
